Oh my! That felt so good!
I know why God sort of put blinders on my eyes last week when I totally missed out on the stretch last Saturday.  It was so I could see how rewarding and awesome I can feel when I do stretch myself.  I now know that this is one routine I don’t want to miss out on, and actually want more of it.
This morning I was lying in bed a little longer (okay, three hours longer) than normal.  This chic was tired from watching the Gators make it to the final four on Thursday evening (Go Gators!), going to bed around 1:00am, and then waking up at 5:30am to begin a day of exercise and work.  Four and one half hours of sleep…I require more rest than that.
While I was lying there, I could feel my body ache.  It was in need of some stretching.  I guess for perspective reason, I thought about those who are bed-bound for some health reason, and about those people who are just lazy and don’t move much.  I felt for those in the bed-bound situation, and thank God for my current health.
For those who are just lazy? Well, just get up!!  In James 1:22 we read, “Do what God’s teaching says; don’t just listen and do nothing. When you only sit and listen, you are fooling yourselves.”  So much like you need to not just sit around and not exercise your body, don’t just listen to or simply read God’s word, DO what it says.
Now, back to my original thought…Okay, I’ve been in the routine of daily exercise.  I missed out on the stretching section the first weekend, and was looking forward to it the next.  I stretched this morning and LOVED it.  Not only did I enjoy it, I wanted it to last longer and am already looking forward to it the next time.
So how does this all tie in our daily walk with God?

  • Getting in a daily routine of having quiet time with God can be tough, but if you stick with it, it is so rewarding.
    • Galatians 6:9, “So let’s not get tired of doing what is good. At just the right time we will reap a harvest of blessing if we don’t give up.”
  • You’ll discover that the more you spend time with God, the more you want of Him.
    • Psalms 63:1, “O God, you are my God; I earnestly search for you.  My soul thirsts for you; my whole body longs for you,…”
  • Just like I was looking forward to “the stretch” portion of my week, we need to look forward to “the home stretch” with God.  One day we will be with Him.  Grow closer to God while we are here, and when we do meet him face-to-face, the reward will be so amazing.
    • 2 Peter 3:13, But in keeping with his promise we are looking forward to a new heaven and a new earth, where righteousness dwells.”

“But may those who come to You be happy and rejoice. May those who love being saved by You always be able to say, “Praise the Lord!”  Psalm 40:16.
Praise the Lord! I am happy that God gives me not only the desire to exercise and get my physical body strong and healthy, but that He gives me the desire/thirst/longing to be spiritually strong and healthy.
Enjoy getting fit physically and spiritually.
Praying God’s blessings and abundant love for you.
