This is great advice or a gentle, but firm, reminder for tonight as a multitude of people of all ages go out to Trick-or-Treat:
“Control yourselves and be careful! The devil is your enemy, and he goes around like a roaring lion looking for someone to attack and eat. Refuse to follow the devil. Stand strong in your faith. You know that your brothers and sisters all over the world are having the same sufferings that you have.” 1 Peter 5:8-9
These verses are a great guidance, and not just for October 31st.
I grew up trick-or-treating, having Halloween Carnivals in elementary school with a haunted mansion (which my parents were always in charge of creating), and watching Dr. Paul Bearer host “Creature Feature” (a series of horror movies on our local station, channel 44 if I recall correctly, from 1973-1995). Yes, I was a normal, church-going, harmless (back then) Halloween fun girl.
I know people have their opinions about celebrating today. I am not going to get into the topic of the history of this day or debate whether it is right or wrong to celebrate.  But what I am going to reiterate is what we are instructed in 1 Peter 5:8-9 to do:

  • Control yourself
  • Be careful
  • Satan is like a sneaky lion and is ready to pounce on you.
  • Satan is the enemy (Oh, yea, God wins in the end. Get on His team.)
  • Refuse to follow (and get trapped) by the devil
  • Stand strong in your faith.
  • You are not alone.

Happy Fall, Y’all!
I pray God’s abundant love and much joy for y’all.
