This morning when I read the scripture-for-the-day, I was like, “No! I’ve seen it too many times. Not today while I’m still one child short from home. He’s on his way home this morning. Please keep him safe.”
I was taking the verse way to literal, so I kept reading the verses that follow and told God, “That’s the verse I want for today.”
Then, God shed some light on the original verse and then my reaction was more, “Okay, God, You are right…again.”
Here‘s the scripture reading for today:
“Teach us how short our lives are so that we can become wise… Fill us with your love every morning. Let us be happy and enjoy our lives.” Psalm 90:12 and 14
I’ve often written about the loss of loved ones way before “we” are ready to release them, and emphasized “how short life is” so we are to embrace each day as if it’s our last. I get it. It’s so true. And it is a great reminder for each of us as we begin our new year.
But, how joyful verse fourteen was to read after the jolt I felt after reading verse twelve, and still how “I get it. It’s so true. And it is a great reminder for each of us as we begin our new year.”
As you enter into 2016, I do pray for you and have a few requests/possibly challenges for you from these two verses (some fabulous corresponding verses follow):
- Enjoy each day of your life. Life is short, and we are not promised tomorrow.
- Be kind to others.
- Forgive and be forgiven.
- Love extravagantly.
- Become wise in The Word. We won’t ever have all the answers to life’s questions, know all there is about the bible, and get it right all the time, but the more time we spend in God’s word the wiser we will become.
- Open up the bible, a true devotional, something scriptural each day to stay grounded in Him.
- Fill yourself with God’s goodness, grace, love, and humility each morning.
- His mercies are new each day so capture them, cherish them, and share His compassion with others.
- Enjoy life!
- Be happy.
