When I see the news on television or in print, my heart aches because of so much sadness that is talked about. I will sit and SMH (I’ve discovered in the texting world SMH means “shake my head”.) There are a lot of “sad” (I’m talking “bad”) people in this world. We tend to get cynical and comfortably numb when we often see some of the things that happen in everyday life. But, you know what? There is so much good in this world! We have the choice to see the world like a half empty or half full glass.
Yesterday, Tim and I (along with other “newbees” with us) had the opportunity to be at the Daytona 500 races.  I’d passed by the speedway every year as a child on our way to the beach and wondered what it was like on the other side of those massive stands. I got the taste of it during the Saturday race (The Drive4COPD 300).  The speed was intense and exhilarating to watch. I was so excited for the next major event on Sunday. Did I say major? Ha! This is like the granddaddy of them all! I mean MAJOR! Well, for the very first time in the history of this race, since 1959, it was delayed due to weather. Not just a few hours, but a whole day (if not longer).  I took advantage of this missed opportunity and saw the sights of the wet track and empty seats, met some interesting people (boy oh boy were there some interesting people), spent time with great friends, and had to look at the glass half full. During a wonderful dinner with friends we were reminiscing about the day’s event, or lack of, and I thought, “You know what, my glass isn’t just half full, it is over-flowing.” Even in an unfortunate situation, we’ve got to look for the good.
Psalm 27:13-14 (NIV) says, “I remain confident of this: I will see the goodness of the LORD in the land of the living. Wait for the LORD; be strong and take heart and wait for the LORD.” Great advice.
So no matter if you are watching the sadness on the news or your plans get delayed due to unfortunate happenings, Take heart! Don’t quit! Stay with God!  There is so much good out there, open your God eyes and seek it.
