Psalms 34:4, “I sought the LORD, and He answered me; He delivered me from all my fears.”
I vividly and emotionally remember one night when I was in fear.  Tim was out of town.  I believe I only had one out of three kids at home with me that night. (Yes, Holly and Hunter were with a grandparent, and Cole, momma’s boy, was home with me.  Praise God for grandparents.) Well, I don’t know about you, but when my man is out of town, I hear every little thing there is at night. Tim already thinks I’m crazy sometimes because I’ll have a dream, believe it is real, and start walking around the house. (Oh the stories I could tell about me and talking or walking in my sleep. Hahaha)
That night, I was NOT asleep yet.  A sound from upstairs was as if someone was walking around in Hunter’s room, which is directly above my bedroom.  At first I laid in bed with racing thoughts and telling myself this is not happening. After a few minutes, probably seconds, I went into the kitchen and grabbed a huge butcher knife. I tiptoed to the foot of the stairs to listen. My heart was racing. I tried to control my breathing. I was shaking. What was I thinking carrying a knife?!!  I thought to myself, ‘I’ll probably end up hurting myself.’ Still, I proceeded upstairs to investigate. (Again, what was I thinking?!)  After rummaging through the rooms upstairs, I found nothing.  But the fear was still consuming me and my thoughts.
I went into my closet, pulled out my book A Pocketful of Promises, got on my knees, and began to read the verses from the bible on protection and turning them into a prayer the whole time.  On the page of this “pocket-sized” book it had about 6-7 verses stating promises from God.  I started reading and saying them out loud, still with trembling in my voice. “The Angel of the Lord guards and rescues all who reverence Him.” Psalm 34:7. I could feel my mind begin to clear. Then, I read the second verse, “Fear not, for I am with you, be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my victorious right hand.” Isaiah 41:10. My heart rate became normal. I continued reading. The next verse was Proverbs 18:10, “The Lord is faithful, and He will strengthen and protect you from the evil one.”  Whew! Calmness and peace rushed over me and I could feel God’s protection. I didn’t even get through all the verses on the page, and God’s presence inhabited me.
God is real! He is alive! He will protect you! Trust in Him and know His word.

Thank you, God, for Your promises. Your Word is true. Thank You for your protection. I love You!, Amen.
