Psalms 11:
16a: “A kindhearted woman gains honor,”
24a: “One person gives freely, yet gains even more;”
25: “A generous person will prosper; whoever refreshes others will be refreshed.”
These verses remind me of one of my dear friend’s mother, Rosie. What a precious and generous woman.
A couple of weeks ago, Tim and I were in Rosie’s “neck of the woods” and took the opportunity to go and visit. I had only met her once before, but I remember her sweet and warming smile. As we were visiting with her at her home you can tell she relishes in her family and the many wonderful adventures that they have had together. Within the past three years she has lost her husband and one of her children. Even though her home is quite spacious with only one occupant, it is evident that it is still full of love and numerous delightful memories.
Before we left, she looked at my shoes and commented that she had a pair like them. (They were comfy Kinos sandals from Key West.) Rosie asked, “What size shoe do you wear?” Then she said, “Wait right there.” So I obeyed. She went upstairs and a few minutes later she brought me a pair of Kino sandals that looked like they had only been worn once. She insisted that I take them. Again, I obeyed, and I told her that every time I wear them I will think her every step I take.
Her daughter told me that every time they leave her mother’s home, Rosie feels the need to make sure they have something to take with them, even if it is a frozen roast from her freezer.
Ms. Rosie is kindhearted and generous. She does give freely. And she has gained my love and respect partially because of her bounteousness.
Thank you, Ms. Rosie, for reminding me to always be giving to others.
Dear Stephanie,Thank you for your sweet and thoughtful message. It is always a special treat to meet my kidlets’ friends and even more special for them to visit!! Losing loved ones will leave vacancies in the heart, never fully filled, only slightly repaired, yet how lucky I am to be surrounded by love from family and friends.Whenever you feel a grain of sand in your Kino’s, I am thinking of you, Come back, Rosie
Much love to you, Mrs. Rosie! Spring Break is next week, and I’m sure the sand will definitely be between my toes. :0) Thinking of you.
