Last night began the first of graduation celebrations for me to attend for many of the kids I’ve seen grow up and are now ready (they think) for the world of college life. It was a wonderful festivity which honored seven graduates at one time. As the young gentlemen were escorted to the front by their parents while they were being announced, a recorded version of the boys speaking would play over the loud speaker. The graduates were thanking their parents, family, friends, and God for their years of dedication to them throughout their schooling. It was a precious sight that brought tears to my eyes.
Throughout the night I would observe kids of all ages (from toddler to currently in college) and wonder about what they will be and what they are doing now. Would they become a respected person who had “good sense” or were they someone who was “headed for destruction”.
This morning’s scripture reading made me think of this. “A person with good sense is respected; a treacherous person is headed for destruction.” Proverbs 13:15. “I will sing praises to you, my source of strength. You, God, are my place of safety. You are the God who loves me.” Psalms 59:17
Oh the thought of the decisions kids have to make. There will be times when they are going to want to participate in something because “everyone else is doing it”. I pray that they will first think before they do and seek God for discernment. Some may say, “Well, that’s not much fun.” But, it will surely save them (and others) a lot of unnecessary heartache if they do.
Kids, teens, young adults (heck, even us older folks), live a life of value and appreciation, not unfaithfulness and devastation. Remember that God is a source of strength and a place of safety. He loves you and wants the best for you.
“My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.” Psalm 73:26
‘Do not fear, for I am with you; do not anxiously look about you, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, surely I will help you, surely I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.’ Isaiah 41:10
“Casting the whole of your care [all your anxieties, all your worries, all your concerns, once and for all] on Him, for He cares for you affectionately and cares about you watchfully.” 1 Peter 5:7
