A few minutes ago my stomach decided to tell me that I was hungry. I can feel the emptiness inside, the eyes needing to focus, and my head feeling a little heavy to my weak body. I am a girl who loves to eat. Those who know me can always tell when I need food. I either get real quiet and to myself, or I become a little snippy. (Okay, sometimes a lot grouchy.) I sometimes feel like saying like the Cookie Monster declares, “Me want cookie!”
When I was reading in 1 Samuel today, I could totally relate to Hannah. (First of all, I love this story of Hannah, Elkanah, Eli, and Samuel. How precious God is to those who love Him!) After crying out to God, so much that the priest thought she was a drunken woman because “Hannah was praying in her heart, silently. Her lips moved, but no sound was heard. Eli jumped to the conclusion that she was drunk. He approached her and said, “You’re drunk! How long do you plan to keep this up? Sober up, woman!” (verses 13-14), Hannah was blessed by the priest, Eli, and was sent on her way.
Here is where I was relating to Hannah this morning…. In verse 18 it says, “Think well of me—and pray for me!” she said, and went her way. Then she ate heartily, her face radiant.” Did you see that? She ate and she was no longer sad. She had happiness back in her face. That is so me!
Okay, now let’s relate this to our daily walk with Christ. We need food. Period. It says in John 6:35, “Then Jesus declared, “I am the bread of life. He who comes to me will never go hungry, and he who believes in me will never be thirsty.””
In Matthew 6:11 we read in the Lord’s Prayer, “Give us today our daily bread.” He is our daily bread! We need to gobble Him up each day by reading His Word, through prayer, and by walking with Him every moment of the day. Remember He said in John 6:35 “He who comes to me will never go hungry”. I, for one, am all over this.
I mentioned how I was feeling weak and not able to focus. That is how we get when we are not being fed by His Word. Let this be a reminder for you to stay focused on God and He will strengthen you.
Don’t say, “Me want cookie!” Say, “Me want Jesus!”
Have a fabulous day!
