These have got to be some of the most read verses from the bible. I remember when they were read at my wedding. Every time I hear them, I reevaluate my attitude towards those I love. God has a way of keeping me fixated on what true love is.
Let’s read these together:
“Love is patient and kind. Love is not jealous or boastful or proudor rude. It does not demand its own way. It is not irritable, and it keeps no record of being wronged. It does not rejoice about injustice but rejoices whenever the truth wins out. Love never gives up, never loses faith, is always hopeful, and endures through every circumstance.” 1 Corinthians 13:4-7.
Here is how it appears in The Message translation:
Love never gives up.
Love cares more for others than for self.
Love doesn’t want what it doesn’t have.
Love doesn’t strut,
Doesn’t have a swelled head,
Doesn’t force itself on others,
Isn’t always “me first,”
Doesn’t fly off the handle,
Doesn’t keep score of the sins of others,
Doesn’t revel when others grovel,
Takes pleasure in the flowering of truth,
Puts up with anything,
Trusts God always,
Always looks for the best,
Never looks back,
But keeps going to the end.
Can I get an “Amen”?
Let’s see…it seems to me that love is pretty selfless.
Some of the points mentioned are probably easy to follow. Others? Well, we may have to keep reading and reevaluating this list often to make sure we stay focused on what true love
really is.
Verse 13 says, “Trust steadily in God, hope unswervingly, love extravagantly. And the best of the three is love.” Ahhhh, all we need is love.
Let’s sing a little well-known tune from The Beatles,
“All you need is love. All you need is love. All you need is love, lov. Love is all you need.
(Love, love, love)(Love, love, love)(Love, love, love)
All you need is love, all together now. All you need is love, everybody. All you need is love, love. Love is all you need.”
Have a great day. And remember:
- Trust steadily in God!
- Hope unswervingly!
- Love extravagantly!
