Have you ever walked outside thinking that the weather was going to be comfortably warm, so you dress appropriately and then set out for your day. Then, when you walk outside and burrrr…the weather is a bit cool. Later on, while you are walking in you cute opened-toed shoes, and you are already shivering from the coolness, it begins to rain. Ugh! Where did this rainstorm come from? You didn’t check the weather for the day. You didn’t plan ahead.
Proverbs 2:11, “Planning ahead will protect you, and understanding will guard you.”
Oh how these verses can and do apply to many areas of our lives. Just stop and think about the plethora of situations you’ve had already that if you would have planned ahead and understood things better, the end result might have been a little more pleasant.
What about now? Are you in the middle of something that you need some understanding? Don’t just plow through it, stop, be wise, and look for some understanding. Seek God and godly advice. Pray!
When I read Proverbs 2:11, my mind automatically went to my precious students. We start our semester exams today. We planned ahead: Lessons were taught, notes were taken, examples were given, skills were applied, and reviews were completed in detail. For these delicate sixth graders, this whole semester exam thing is new to them. It can be quite daunting. But I pray that they feel their preparedness and take the time to reflect on what they’ve learned. If they are not prepared for this exam, well, this will be a lesson learned for them to pay attention bit more in class. J I feel confident that they can succeed on the exam.
The students are given ample opportunity to understand each topic throughout the semester. I remind them constantly that I don’t want them walking out of my classroom not understanding how to do something. They need to ask. (I can’t read mind.) When you understand something, it boosts your confidence a bit. Be confident. Seek understanding.
On a final note, have you planned ahead for your eternal future? Protect your life by giving your heart to Christ and asking Jesus into your heart. Do you understand that when your life has come to an end that you will only end up in one of two places? Guard your life by having the assurance that you are going to Heaven.
Don’t get caught in the rainstorms of life, be prepared. Place your faith in God.
Prayer: “Lord, I pray my students that they will feel their preparedness and reach down into their understanding of each concept. I pray for my own children as they are completing exams this week. Give them a God-confidence. Thank You for reminding me that when I plan ahead and understand, the end result will be much more pleasant and peaceful in the end. I love you, Lord. Amen.”
Blessings to you.
