It’s not “religion”. It is a “relationship”.
I often heard people ask “Are you a religious person?”
Let’s see…Do I go to church? Do I eat three meals a day? Do I brush my teeth every morning and night? Do I pray before each meal? Do I put my seatbelt on in my car? Do I tell my family daily that I love them? Do I read my bible daily? Do I…. These are things that I do religiously/systematically.
When it comes to being a Christian, I prefer not to be called a “religious person”. In Matthew 12:6 Jesus says, “I tell you that there is something here that is greater than the Temple.” (ERV) The Message translation plainly states, “There is far more at stake here than religion.”
It’s not about what we do “religiously”; go to church, pray, be kind, serve others, etc. Being a Christian is about your personal relationship with Christ.
Deuteronomy 6:5 is one of my all-time go to verses. It says, “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength.” If you “love”, that has to do with a relationship. When you love as Deuteronomy says to do “religiously” you will discover a closeness to God like never before, and that your priorities in life will be right.
Do you have a “relationship” you Christ? It is the most important decision you will ever make in your life.
Blessings to you.
