Get intoxicated!
What? That’s right. You heard me. Go get drunk. Just not on what you think. Go get drunk on love!
Chapter five of Proverbs talks about “The Wisdom of Avoiding Adultery”. This topic is rampant in our society. It breaks my heart every time I hear of someone cheating on their spouse.
Even though Proverbs 5:18-20 is speaking to a husband, this lesson applies to all, male or female. “Be happy with your own wife. Enjoy the woman you married while you were young. 19 She is like a beautiful deer, a lovely fawn. Let her love satisfy you completely. Stay drunk on her love, 20 and don’t go stumbling into the arms of another woman.”
Remember why you fell in love with your spouse in the first place. Did they make you giddy? Well, revive that feeling. Flirt with one another. Feel young again.
Do you have “pet-peeves” with one another? Well discuss them and work on them together in a loving way. Communication is huge in a relationship. Talk! Get to know each other all over again.
“Have you hugged your spouse today?” Touch. Just like you have to eat daily meals, hug your spouse that many times if not more. Intimacy increases with each touch. Ladies, some advice that I was given when I was getting married (almost 22 years ago) was to “keep your man happy”. If you don’t someone else will. Men, do the same. Just remember the saying, “Men are microwaves and women are crockpots”? Take time with one another and “get acquainted” with each other all over again.
Do you pray with and for each other? Oh my, you must! Go to church. Hang out with Christian folks. Learn more about God. The closer you both grow to God, the closer you will become with one another.
This list could go on and on. Just do yourself a favor… go get drunk your spouse’s love.
Prayer: “Lord, my heart aches as I type these words for friends who are going through a season of adultery now. My face is to the ground praying for a revival in their relationship. May all our hearts turn to You. May married folks take their vows serious and look at each with sincerity, compassion, and lust for one another. Thank You for my good-looking, wise, funny, and godly man. I pray that we will forever be drunk on each other’s love. Marriage is sacred. Please put a hedge of protection around my marriage and keep Satan away. Amen.”
Blessings to you.
