People who accept discipline are on the pathway to life,
but those who ignore correction will go astray. Proverbs 10:17
I am grateful for the discipline I had in my life. I may not have appreciated it when I was getting a spanking or on some type of restriction, but looking back…I’m grateful now for the lessons learned. Thanks, mom.
When my own children are disciplined, I sometimes tell them that it’s for their own good. They may want to pout and sulk in the process, but it will all be worth it in the end. As a parent of three quickly growing children, I have already had the pleasure of seeing the respectful fruition from disciplining them when needed.
Holly and I were talking the other day about all the times she’s had her phone taken away, no tv, or restriction from hanging out with friends. We did laugh about it, but the results were worth it. She is a respectful and precious daughter. I am grateful that I can say that about each of my children.
In the career that I’m in I can see the difference between the children who you can tell have had loving discipline in their life between those who have either had no discipline at all, or some who may have had too much of it in a not-so-loving way. Some kids I just want to bring them home with me for a while to get some Jesus in them. Yea, I’m thinking that that is what a lot of folks need in their lives…Jesus!
When you are paying the consequences for something you’ve done, embrace it, accept it, repent, learn from it, and move on. Don’t turn your back on correction, that’s just going to lead you, and probably others around you, down the wrong path in life.
Blessings to you.
