Have you ever been in a situation when you needed to make a move or come to a final decision, you had chatted with (prayed to) God about it, but He wasn’t responding in the timely manner you needed Him to? You’ve put yourself in one of those “hurry up and wait” dilemmas.
You get tired of waiting on God, so you decide to proceed on your own. Much to your surprise, things get a little rough. Your situation isn’t as stable as you’d hoped it would be.
All of a sudden, in the midst of your storm, God shows up. He doesn’t just “poof” appear, He gracefully strolls into your dilemma. (He is the ultimate cool guy. God’s got this under control.)
Now, it’s up to you. You can say, “Where have you been?”, “There you are! I couldn’t wait any longer.”, or “Woohoo! You’re here. Please H-E-L-P!” You must be willing to have Jesus join you.
When you decide to allow God to take control, you’ll notice how He gets you going in the right direction. Your storms become like either a sprinkle or blue skies.
This type of scenario occurred in John 6:16-21:
- 16 When evening came, his disciples went down to the lake, 17 where they got into a boat and set off across the lake for Capernaum. By now it was dark, and Jesus had not yet joined them. 18 A strong wind was blowing and the waters grew rough. 19 When they had rowed about three or four miles, they saw Jesus approaching the boat, walking on the water; and they were frightened. 20 But he said to them, “It is I; don’t be afraid.” 21 Then they were willing to take him into the boat, and immediately the boat reached the shore where they were heading.
I know I’ve put myself in plenty of “hurry up and wait” situations. And I’m pretty sure I chose to hurry up and move on a time or two without God. There is a definite difference in the way things turned out when I compare those times I waited on and trusted in God, verses those “me-getter-done” times.
Note to self….Wait upon the Lord! Psalms 27:14 reminds us to “Wait patiently for the LORD. Be brave and courageous. Yes, wait patiently for the LORD.”
Blessings to you.
