This journaling has now gone to the birds!
I believe that God uses His creations to comfort us and bring us peace and fond memories.
Lately, for me, it’s about “the birds”. When you read back to the June 11 posting you see how the turkeys gobbled in “Grandmama’s Meadow” and the hummingbirds came to visit me while I was sitting on the porch.
One other episode I didn’t write about was how on the last day we were in Kentucky, I was sitting on the porch and I heard some wrestling going on in the gutter of the house. To my surprise two bluebirds flew out. I immediately thought about those birds being Tim and Todd (Jany’s two boys). As I went to position the iPad for a picture to snap of the blues, that’s when two hummingbirds came to give me a double blessing, *Click*
Also while in Kentucy, a dove was perched on a tree close to the porch. Tim mentioned how when a dove mates, he mates for life. When the dove’s partner dies, it remains alone.
Well, a couple of days ago, my sweet friend, Kim, was visiting us here on the island. We were sitting in the sand on the dockside watching the kids fish and the men chat it up in the water, when all of a sudden two redbirds flew by and perched themselves in the tree behind us. Kim very casually asked, “Do you usually see redbirds here?” I replied, “No, never.”
Kim later revealed to me the symbolism the redbirds have been for her lately. See, her dad found out three months ago that he has cancer and only has now a few weeks left to live his life here on earth. The day that she was told how terminal her daddy is, she drove up into her driveway, her son was outside and pulled the tailgate down on his truck, and patted for his momma to go sit with him. He asked her how his grandaddy was doing. She cried as they talked, but the whole time they were conversing she noticed a beautiful redbird sitting in the tree looking at them the whole time. She remembers how strange yet comforting it was.
Then, just about a week ago, Kim and her family were out fishing in the backcountry waters. As they were fishing Kim noticed a redbird in the mangroves as if it was keeping watch over them. Her thoughts went to her daddy.
Well, today when I was reading my scriptures, I heard a dove coo. I looked up and it was adjacent to the balcony where my father-in-law’s bedroom was. My heart was touched.
But that’s not the end of my “bird moments”. After the dove cooed, guess who showed up? A redbird appeared! I texted my friend Kim and told her, “A redbird just came to say ‘good morning’ to me. Thinking of you.”
I continued with my scripture reading and the portion of the bible I read was 1 Kings 17:1-5. It talks about how God commanded the ravens (birds) to bring them food. I think food, I think comfort.
After reading, i came inside the house where Tim and my father-in-law were chatting. I told them about the birds, and then Wayne said, “The redbird was Jany’s favorite bird.”
Comfort and peace. No matter how God brings it, I felt it through “The Birds”.
Blessings to y’all.
