When we were in Hawaii this summer a saying that I often heard and saw on decorative plaques was, “It is what it is”.
Then when I returned back to work, that same quote was repeated throughout preplanning and the first week of school. New ideas were brought to the table or various changes were made to curriculums and the familiar saying, “It is what it is” rang throughout the halls.
This motto can be taken in various ways. The most common understanding is for one to accept the way things are for the moment.
During my quiet time this morning, this quote came to mind when I read 1 Corinthians 15:10. Paul says, “But by the grace of God I am what I am,”
So, I’m not going to quote “It is what it is” right now, but “I am what I am”.
I am:
- A daughter
- A sister
- A wife and lover
- A mother
- A friend
- An aunt
- A teacher
- A prayer warrior
- A person who likes my home organized
- A girl who loves to marinate in God’s word
- A girl who loves to laugh and cry with you
- Someone who needs to exercise more
- One who enjoys sunsets, traveling, and seeing God’s creation
- Someone who relishes family time whether it is in our backyard, sitting around in the family room, on a boat, or wherever we are all together.
- And on and on
- But most importantly, I am a child of God.
Much like Paul, I feel the least of all (verse 9). I often feel unworthy of the blessings that come my way. But through God, He who lives within me, and the grace and forgiveness He allows me to have…I am what I am…a Christian full of hope and love.
Who are you?
Blessings and God’s abundant love to all.
