Are we so different?
Follow this brief synopsis:

  • God, through signs, wonders, and messages from prophets, gave instructions to His people, Judah, Israel, and other nations, as to how to live.
  • God promised great things if they would just be obedient to Him.
  • They didn’t obey.
  • He gave them another chance by having a prophet present them with a list of reminders as to what they should do and the consequences to their actions if they do not follow Him.
  • God was ready to forgive.
  • Some listened to God’s word and were fearful of Him.
  • Others…were not fazed by what they heard.
  • The king burned the scroll, as if it was never written, and carried on about his marry way.

Here, read these verses in Jeremiah for yourself:

  • I have given commands to you people of Judah again and again, and you have not obeyed me.15 Time after time I have sent my servants the prophets to you. They said, “You must each stop doing evil things and do what is right. Don’t follow other gods. Don’t worship or serve them. If you obey me, you will live in the land I have given to you and your ancestors.” But you have not paid attention to my message.” Jeremiah 35:14b-15
  • “During the fourth year that Jehoiakim son of Josiah was king in Judah, the Lord gave this message to Jeremiah:“Get a scroll, and write down all my messages against Israel, Judah, and the other nations. Begin with the first message back in the days of Josiah, and write down every message, right up to the present time. Perhaps the people of Judah will repent when they hear again all the terrible things I have planned for them. Then I will be able to forgive their sins and wrongdoings.”  Jeremiah 36:1-3
  • “When they heard all the messages, they looked at one another in alarm.” Jeremiah 36:16a
  • 20 Then the royal officials put the scroll in the room of Elishama the scribe. They went to King Jehoiakim and told him all about the scroll. 21 So King Jehoiakim sent Jehudi to get the scroll. Jehudi brought the scroll from the room of Elishama the scribe. Then Jehudi read the scroll to the king and all the servants who stood around the king.22 The time this happened was in the ninth month,[h] so King Jehoiakim was sitting in the part of the palace used for winter. There was a fire burning in a small fireplace in front of the king.23 Jehudi began to read from the scroll. But after he would read two or three columns, King Jehoiakim would grab the scroll. Then he would cut those columns off the scroll with a small knife and throw them into the fireplace. Finally, the whole scroll was burned in the fire.24 And, when King Jehoiakim and his servants heard the message from the scroll, they were not afraid. They did not tear their clothes to show sorrow for doing wrong.” Jeremiah 36:20-24

Heads up:

  • God gave us instructions on how to live. (The bible)
  • His rewards and consequences are clearly written His in word.
  •  We have a choice whether to obey or disobey.
  • Some of us will be fearful and choose Him, and others will shun God and act like the bible isn’t significant.

News flash:

  • God’s word cannot be destroyed!
    • John 10:35b, “The Word of God was with them and the scripture cannot be destroyed”
    • 1 Peter 1:23b, “God’s everlasting word that can’t be destroyed.”
  • Yes, we do have a choice because God gave us freewill.
    • Proverbs 16:9, “The heart of man plans his way, but the Lord establishes his steps.”
  • Choose God!
    • Hebrews 11:6, “And without faith it is impossible to please him, for whoever would draw near to God must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who seek him.”
    • John 3:16, “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.”

Blessings and God’s abundant love to y’all.
