And loving means living the way he commanded us to live. And God’s command is this: that you live a life of love. You heard this command from the beginning. 2 John 6
What a special day. This afternoon many of our youth did what God tells us to do…love. We had approximately sixty youth go out in our community to show God’s love. They showed loved by: visiting nursing homes to sing Christmas carols and deliver poinsettias, paint at our local Pregnancy Care Center, make a church member’s yard beautiful, shared Jesus with children in a Hispanic community, shopped for Christmas gifts for those in need, and helped organize with two local mission ministries.
I had the privilege of going to the nursing homes to spread some Christmas cheer. The tapping of one’s foot, bobbing of the head to the music, singing along with us, applause, and smiles on many of the elderly faces was priceless.
Tonight I received text from one of the youth leaders who my son was with letting me know what a great job he did and that Hunter was a hard worker. That makes a momma smile.
I’m sure many of the youth, and adults, could have (and wanted to) easily stayed home to watch championship football games, shopped for Christmas presents on their list, put up their own decorations, etc. but they chose to “live a life of love”. Not just doing things that “they love” to do, but in service and share God’s love.
I know for me, I had a list of things “I” wanted to do today, and you know what…even with me giving up four hours of my day to “live a life of love”, God supplied me with time to get my list accomplished too. I even had time to relax with my family tonight.
He (God) has a tendency to do that. When we give of our time for Him, He seems to give us plenty of time to do the things wanted to do for ourselves as well.
I hope you will stop and take the time to “live a life of love” for God and others, and not just for this season, but throughout the year.
Blessings and God’s abundant love to y’all.
