“Hallelujah” “Amen” “Rejoice and be glad” “Give Him glory” “Praise the Lord”
These are all terms that have been reiterated throughout scripture over the past few days of reading through God’s word.
As this 2013 year is coming to a close, I can say that there have been moments this year that doing or saying the above aforementioned terms should have been difficult. Yes, there were times that “being glad” wasn’t at the top of my list. But praising Him and giving God glory was not up for option. Those had to stay firm in times of difficulty.
If you’ve read any journal entries from this past summer, you know that my family suffered an unexpected loss. It wasn’t just the loss of my precious mother-in-law, but several close family friends lost loved ones, our eighteen year old dog passed away, etc. It was one heck of a summer. Yet, through it all, God was there. His presence gave me and others strength, peace, and comfort to withstand all the trails that came our way.
When I do look back, I can recollect many moments that did and still do make me glad. I wish I could remember them all.
Well, today when I looked on the News Feed of Facebook, I saw where a friend posted a picture of a jar with instructions. The tag simply said:
Starting January 1st, write good things that happen to you on little pieces of paper:
- Surprise gifts
- Accomplished goals
- The beauty of nature
- “LOL” moments
- Memories worth saving
- Daily blessings
Then, on December 31st, open the jar and read all the amazing things that happened to you in 2014.
I was encouraged when I read others comment on how they did this and were looking forward to opening their jar on December 31st.
I’ve heard of a “Blessing Jar”, a “Gratitude Jar”, or whatever you want to call it. You may want to title it by using some of the scripture words mentioned earlier:
“My Hallelujah Can”
“An Amen Jar”
“My Rejoice and be glad Canister”
“The Give Him glory Jug”
“The Praise the Lord Jar”
Whatever you decide to call it, I hope you’ll do it. Then when you finish your 2014 year with all the unexpected, trials, successes, whatever life throws at you this year, I pray that you’ll be able to open your container, pour out the little blessings that happened along the way, and be glad!
God does give us blessings each day. Maybe doing this activity will help me to remember all the blessings He pours out for me.
Will you join me?
Blessings and God’s abundant love to y’all.
