The other day I walked into the bathroom where my daughter was getting ready for school. I noticed she grabbed the delightfully decorated bottle of “Beautiful Day” and was about to spray it on herself. That’s when I questioned her with a smile, “Why are you spraying yourself with that?”
She said, “It smells good.”
I laughed and replied, “That’s room deodorizer, not perfume!”
We cracked up together! Holly informed me that she’s been using it every day. We joked about how people at school probably thought she had just left the restroom between each class period.
Now that’s funny! I am still laughing just thinking about that incident. Oh my!
There are three things we can learn from this…
- Learn to laugh at yourself!! This is a great character trait to have. So many of us take life way to serious. So we make goofy mistakes or do funny things accidentally…LAUGH! In Proverbs 17:22 we read, “A joyful heart is good medicine, but a crushed spirit dries up the bones.” Holly and I had a good laugh that morning. It’s a great way to start the day. Also, if you are able to laugh at yourself, it shows that you have confidence. So go ahead and laugh your head off at yourself the next time you do something silly.
- Proverbs 27:9 says, “Perfume and incense bring joy to the heart, and the pleasantness of a friend springs from their heartfelt advice.” Perfume…or room deodorizer (LOL)…may bring joy to your heart or make your feel “beautiful”. Perfume is compared in this verse to the good advice from a friend…it makes you feel good and refreshes you. Be a good friend. Give advice when asked. Listen when your friend needs someone to talk to. Speak to others from your heart.
- When Holly was spraying “Beautiful Day” on her, she thought she really was misting herself with perfume. It was as if the bottle was imitating a bottle of perfume. It deceived her. We are deceived daily by people and things. Be careful that you don’t get caught in the trap of being a deceiver. Don’t waste your time imitating something that isn’t godly, but imitate “The Beautiful One”. Ephesians 5:1-2 tells us, “You are God’s dear children, so try to be like Him. Live a life of love. Love others just as Christ loved us. He gave Himself for us—a sweet-smelling offering and sacrifice to God.” He is a “sweetie”. We need to make sure that we display a pleasing aroma of and for Jesus Christ.
Ok, so I may have stretched it a bit far, but you get the point. Enjoy laughing, being a great friend, and trying to be more like Christ daily.
Have a “Beautiful Day”
I pray God’s blessings and abundant love for you all!
(PS…Jokes on me!!! We just look it up on the computer and it really is a fragrance mist for your skin. Hahahahahaha. Well, it gave us something to think about. Now who’s the one laughing at herself.)
