I love how God works!
When I began my exercise routine this morning I prayed for God to speak to me and through me. Several ideas came to mind while listening to the instructor and focusing on the movements that connects the physical to the spiritual workout.
Then, when it came time to actually type this devotion, God led me to glance through “The One Year Bible Online” reading that my church displays on their website.
The subtitle “Building on a Solid Foundation” caught my attention. As I read Luke 6:46-49, I just knew that this was the scripture to share for today.
It reads, “So why do you keep calling me ‘Lord, Lord!’ when you don’t do what I say? 47 I will show you what it’s like when someone comes to me, listens to my teaching, and then follows it. 48 It is like a person building a house who digs deep and lays the foundation on solid rock. When the floodwaters rise and break against that house, it stands firm because it is well built.49 But anyone who hears and doesn’t obey is like a person who builds a house without a foundation. When the floods sweep down against that house, it will collapse into a heap of ruins.”
This whole section of my physical workout is focusing on FOUNDATION. As Christians, new or seasoned, we need to make sure that our spiritual lives have a strong foundation in The Lord.
I don’t want to do this exercise routine and then months later be all flabby. I didn’t need to start straight to the hard core routines and burnout. No, I need a well built foundation in order to persevere and build strength the right way.
The same is with our daily walk with God, or really…just life in general.
God doesn’t want us to be “Sunday Christians”. He doesn’t want us to just hear His word and then go on about our lives. Notice in verse 47 Jesus says, “…listens to my teaching, AND THEN follows it.” We need to make sure that we pray, read His word, listen to sound biblical teachings, and apply what we hear to our daily lives.
God wants us to obey (see verse 49) Him.
Be strong in your walk with God. Buildon Him, your foundation. Psalm 62:2 says, “Truly He is my rock and my salvation.” Amen. Is He yours?
Enjoy getting fit physically and spiritually.
Praying God’s blessings and abundant love for you.
