The other day I was at the Publix deli in Ormond by the Sea. The two ladies behind the deli counter were ladies I was enjoying watching while they worked. They were friendly to the customers, attentive, and laughing and joking around with each other and the other employees. No matter how long of a day they’d already had (one lady told me she comes here straight from her other job), they were pleasantly doing their job and bringing joy to those around them. They could have easily been tired from making sandwiches over and over again, but you would never have known that they were tired of doing what they were doing. They greeted each customer with newness and great enthusiasm.
I was reminded of this scene while Holly and I were having a “focus” meeting. We talked about goals in life and bringing glory to God in all you do. Just like those ladies at the deli were bringing joy to each customer, we need to bring joy to The Creator with each task we do.
Each day I teach five advance math classes and one regular math class. Do I sometimes get tired of teaching the same lesson all day? Sure. But each class period is different and unique. They each bring something new to the discussion. They each are seeing the lesson for the first time. So that’s what I have to remind myself. The students deserve my best, and I need to do better on giving it to them.
Just as each Publix deli customer was new to the ladies, who probably make the same sandwiches over and over again, I must keep each period fresh as if it was the first time.
Colossians 3:23-24 instructs us to, “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving.”
I pray that each of us will wake each morning with a freshness and newness in and on life. God gave us each day as a gift. “This is the day the Lord has made; We will rejoice and be glad in it.” Psalm 118:24.
Live for God.
I pray God’s abundant love and blessings for y’all.
