“You shall not steal.” Exodus 20:15
Period. Why? Because God said so.
Tonight while my niece was celebrating family members at a ceremony, someone else was doing some new found celebration of their own. Some idiot broke into her fiancé’s truck and stole her purse. Her purse included some loot that was bound to make the thief celebrate in thinking that they hit the jackpot. Ugh! As one of my pastors jokingly says, “I hope they get a rash.”
I will never forget when my purse got stolen back when I was in 8th grade. I know, that’s a long long time ago, but I remember it like it was yesterday. The feeling of being violated…again, UGH!
We read that stealing is part of Satan’s business, and that God’s business is quite different. John 10:10, “The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.” If you don’t have Jesus as your Savior, you will eventually discover that you are being violated. You’re being violated of your right to a full and abundant life.
A little further down in John 10:28 we see Jesus telling the crowd, “I give them eternal life, and they will never perish. No one can snatch them away from Me.” God is like the ultimate bouncer. No one is getting past Him. He is strong and mighty and is the great Protector. Home security systems don’t have anything on God. When you are in the hand of God, you are safe and secure. So why not give your life to Christ? You will have security in Him for a lifetime and beyond.
Okay, so maybe (yes, definitely) I’m supposed to pray for my enemies (Matthew 5:44). So I don’t pray that those purse thieves get a rash, but I pray that they will repent and make the right decision for the wrong they’ve done. I pray that they will do what Ephesians 4:28 says, “Whoever has been stealing must stop it and start working. They must use their hands for doing something good. Then they will have something to share with those who are poor.” Maybe my niece has something in her purse that will let them know that she is a Christian and they’ll find their way to Jesus.
I pray God’s abundant love and blessings for y’all.
