Oh, my Holly. Gotta love her.
She has one main chore to do around the house…fold and put away the laundry. Bless her heart, around our house, that’s almost a daily chore. The other morning, before she left for school, I reminded her (as I often have to do for some reason) to please fold and put away the clothes in the family room when she comes home from school.
When I arrived home that afternoon and sat on our sofa, I looked to my left and discovered a friend sitting beside me. The friend’s name was “Laundry still waiting to be folded”. I looked at Holly, pointed to the pile of clean clothes, and said to Holly, “Seriously?”
I had to laugh at her response. She replied, “I have selective sight.”
I looked at her with a grin and said, “Girl, you know there’s a devotional in that saying.”
Now, I’ve heard of “selective hearing”, but “selective sight”?
Her wittiness and quickness cracks me up.
I was kind of hoping at that time that Holly would say as Job said to God in Job 42:5-6, “In the past I heard about you,but now I have seen you with my own eyes. And I am ashamed of myself. I am so sorry. As I sit in the dust and ashes,I promise to change my heart and my life.” Maybe Holly’s would go a little more like, “I heard you this morning mom, and I should know what to do. I’m sorry I had selective sight. It won’t happen again.” Haha!
Are we so different from what we observe in our lives today? The world around us is bombarding us with things that our little eyes shouldn’t see. Many times I want to put my “selective sight” on.
We’re not the only ones seeing all the worldly things. In Psalm 94:9 we read, “God made our ears, so surely He can hear what is happening! He made our eyes, so surely He can see you!” I often wonder what He thinks about what His creation has turned into.
But, even though there are a multitude of ungodly scenes, there are a plethora of righteous views as well. Psalm 119:18 says, “Open my eyes so that I can see all the wonderful things in Your teachings.” God’s glory and grace are present amongst our world. We see Him in nature, people, everyday occurrences, and oh how He shines in His word.
Oh, as my mind is bombarded with many thoughts on how I could journal about this saying of Holly’s, I better leave it at this:
The Lord opens the eyes of the blind. The Lord lifts up those who are weighed down. The Lord loves the godly.Psalm 146:8
Go open your eyes to all that God wants you to see. Put your “God Goggles” on and see His wonders.
I pray God’s abundant love and blessings for y’all.
(Check out Exodus 4 as see how you can apply “sight” to this chapter.)
