This week was a first for our new dog, Marley. After being in a shelter for 3 ½ years, she had her first trip to the beach this week.
Just like how it has been since she came into our lives, she slowly warmed up to the whole sand and wave thing.
On the way to the beach, there is a path through the sea oats between our home and the water. Even for people, finding the right path can be a bit tricky. But Marley eventually got it.
The first trip to the beach, she wanted to take off in another direction. When I would pull her back onto the path,
she either stubbornly stand there or plop herself down in the bushes. I would either patiently wait her out until she realized that my path was better, or I’d have to physically pick her up and put her back on the right path.
There were times when she would venture off the path and I’d just stand there waiting on her and tell her, “No, Marley, there are cactuses that way.”
Each day Marley would start making her way down the path and would get a little more successful and more confident. By the fourth day, it was like an old habit for her.
This whole experience reminded me of how we are with the paths we take in our lives. God has a course He’d like us to take, but we are often like Marley and want to take our own adventure or stubbornly want to do things our way.
God is either waiting patiently for us to discover the right path, or He sometimes has a way of picking us up and putting us on the right road.
When we finally discover that God’s way is much better than our way, we have success and more confident in whom He is.
It was exciting to see Marley take a little voyage closer to the water on our last
evening at the beach. She looked like she had found freedom! That is exactly the way it is when find our way down God’s road, freedom in Him.
Psalm 16:11 says, “Now You’ve got my feet on the life path, all radiant from the shining of Your face. Ever since You took my hand, I’m on the right way.”
Are you on the right way? Allow God to lead you down His path in life for you.
I pray God’s abundant love and blessings for y’all.
