Today at church our pastor, Dr. Brian Stowe, led a different kind of Sunday morning worship service. It was a little, okay a lot, out of our normal routine, but as I sat and reflected during praying time, I am grateful for the fresh start to a New Year.
What was so different? The entire Sunday morning worship service was “A Call to Prayer”. Pastor Brian would speak briefly, we’d sing, and then pray. This occurred various times as we focused each prayer session on: thanksgiving, forgiveness of our sins and our need to forgive others, and our need for revival. This revival wasn’t necessarily about the church, but within our own hearts.
Some may have taken the time of prayer as a reason to take a quick nap in church, but if they did, boy did they miss out on a meaningful and reflective time.
I want to share with you a phrase from my church’s mission statement that rang true for me. It says, “We must be about leading people beyond ‘just good enough’ to experience life in Christ.”
“Just good enough”…allow that to settle in you for a moment.
Do you want to be a “Just good enough” parent, child, sibling, or friend? What about a “Just good enough” student in school, employee at your work, or member of your team?
I know that I have personally gotten a tainted attitude at work at times of “Just good enough”. Now don’t get me wrong, I LOVE to teach children, but it doesn’t seem that we teachers can be the teachers that God has gifted us to me in our “own” way. When I heard and read those words “Just good enough”, it hit me like a ton of bricks regarding my teaching lately. I need to get back to the teacher within me that will putt-putt along doing what is right for the children and try not to let other factors bring me down. (Teachers, are you with me?)
Where do those words, “Just good enough”, hit you? I hope that as you begin 2015, you will evaluate your life and strive to be not just good enough, but be and do your best!
“In all the work you are given, do the best you can. Work as though you are working for the Lord, not any earthly master.” Colossians 3:23
I pray many blessings and much joy for you!
