My heart was smiling from atrium to atrium this past weekend. You see, my Holly was in a pageant. Our small town of Plant City is known as the “Winter Strawberry Capitol of the World”. One way we celebrate the start of our annual festival is the selection of a queen and court to represent not only the festival, but our town and the strawberry industry.
In preparation, Holly educated herself in all three of the areas mentioned. Not only did Holly grow in knowledge about the festival, Plant City, and strawberries, but herself. She grew in confidence, poise, and graciousness.
One of my specific prayers were that during the interview process (The contestants are interviewed for seven minutes by Miss America circuit judges. Yea, our little town goes Big town.) and the impromptu question section on stage, was for Holly to receive questions that she can answer with poise and confidence. Well, God answered my prayers. She came out of the interview beaming. She said she made them laugh and answered, even the tough questions, well. Her impromptu question was one that she was able to answer with confidence, and she stated how she has grown in that area too.
Holly was contestant number one in a group of fabulous girls. Yikes! She rocked that stage with grace and beauty. Are there areas for improvement? Sure. And Holly has already taken the time to reflect on what she would do differently.
Holly wasn’t chosen as the Florida Strawberry Festival Queen, but she sure is mine and God’s Princess. No matter if she chooses to compete again is totally up to her. But I must say, after moments of disappointment (not only by her), Holly shined with her grace.
At church, the following day, she had a plethora of folks saying precious comments to her and asked her how she was doing. Holly reiterated the pastor’s sermon and said, “It’s not about me.” Yes! Even after the pageant is over, she pulls out a perfect answer! To God be ALL the glory.
Going through this experience has taught Holly many life-long skills. I’m beaming with gratitude for those who assisted her in this process. Holly is walking away from this experience with her head held high and much positive growth.
“I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.” Psalm 139:14 Yes, she is. Yes, YOU are.
I pray many blessings and much joy for you! Have a wonderful day. – Stephanie
Not only was I so proud of Holly; I was proud of her mama’s wonderful smile when Holly was not one of the beautiful selected for the court. You both showed Graciousness and God’s love shining through you. That is important to let God shine through you. Love you both to the moon and back and more than the stars in the sky.
