needsWhat do you need?  Or better yet, who do you need?
Do you need others to make you feel a certain way?
Recently a teenage girl told me about how she is just coming out of a relationship.  She didn’t realize how much she enjoyed feeling “needed” by someone, and that she was becoming dependent on her ex-boyfriend.  She misses that feeling of being needed and needing someone.
Of course I had something to gently say to her. (*wink wink*)
I gave her a story of what happens when we start to depend more on others than on God.  When we turn our focus on someone other than God, we begin to make them a little god.  Ouch, God doesn’t like that.  We don’t need to make anything a little god and put anything before our Heavenly Father.
Feeling needed is often a euphoric sensation for some.  It can give one a sense of control. But we must remember…we are human.  People are not perfect and will let us down. You will not be able to fill every need of someone else yourself either.  There is only one true one whom we can put our desire of “needing” in and we won’t be let down, and that man is Jesus.
I mentioned to this fragile girl that God needs her.  He needs her to look up to Him and seek Him with all her heart.  He needs us to love and serve Him.  When we allow the Lord to use us to serve a need, we ended up feeling and being blessed.  When we do seek the Lord, He is there.
Not only does God need her, but she needs God.  We all need Him to rely on daily.  I’m not quite sure how people get through life without needing Him, but I know that I am utterly grateful that I need Him and can count on Him at any time.
And my God will meet all your needs according to the riches of his glory in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:19
Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.” 1 Peter 5:7
“I am not saying this because I am in need, for I have learned to be content whatever the circumstances. 12 I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want. 13 I can do all this through him who gives me strength.” Philippians 4:11-13
Do you need to feel needed or have to need someone to lean on?  Let Jesus Christ be the answer for you.
