Get OVER it!
Do you ever, or often, get the feeling that you are OVERwhelmed? I know I have plenty of times before. But, now let’s change the feeling of being OVERwhelmed to the accomplishment of having OVERcomed.
This morning I woke up to God’s beautiful reminder:
“I keep my eyes always on the Lord. With Him at my right hand, I will not be shaken.” (NIV) Psalm 16:8
Repeat, repeat, and repeat this again! Here’s three more translations:
- “I always remember that the Lord is with me. He is here, close by my side, so nothing can defeat me.” (ERV)
- “Day and night I’ll stick with God; I’ve got a good thing going and I’m not letting go.” (MSG)
- “I know the Lord is always with me. I will not be shaken, for He is right beside me.” (NLT)
In Deuteronomy 6 we are instructed to keep, obey, impress on others, talk to others about, write on your doorframe and gates, and tie to your hands and foreheads GOD’S WORD. Well, I would like to encourage you to do all this! You may not be able to post it on your doorframe in your workplace, but you probably have a desk or computer close by. Psalm 16:8 is a perfect reminder that YOU ARE NOT ALONE! You can and will OVERcome your situation with God by your side.
You may say and inquire, “YES, Stephanie, I am completely OVERwhelmed right now. But how can I OVERcome it?”
Well, I’m glad you asked.
If you reread Psalm 16:8 (again) notice that it says in these versions to:
- Keep your eyes always on the Lord.
- Remember that He is with you
- Day and night He is with you.
- KNOW that God is with you.
My friend, when you’ve got and keep Christ right beside you, hold His hand, allow Him to guide you, He will NOT leave you. Hold on tight! Don’t let go! Take a deep breath when you are feeling OVERwhelmed, keep your Heavenly Father in your sight, and be confident that “This too shall pass” as long as you’ve got God with you.
I also want to encourage you to try a few things that have aided me over the years not feel so OVERwhelmed at times:
- Prioritize your “To Do” list.
- Give that list to God. He knows what’s most important.
- Prepare yourself. If it’s like a test…STUDY and go to class! (Can you tell I’m a teacher?) If it’s something that you are most likely prepared for, but you’ve consumed yourself with doing and thinking about “too many things”, remember that you ARE prepared.
- Use your resources. Most likely you’ve got others around you that have “been there, done that”. Take advantage of their past experiences. You just may find that you have something to share with them as well.
- PRAY. Pray. Pray.
- Say comforting bible verses to yourself, much like Psalm 16:8.
- Have those bible verse around you: in your car, in each room of your home, by our workspace, in your school folder, etc.
- Remember that you are not alone.
You can OVERcome your OVERwhelming feeling WITH God.
