lightning treeClose call!
“God is not done with you yet” are the words I told my eldest son, Hunter, on Sunday morning.
On Saturday afternoon, Tim and I were in Lakeland for Cole’s football game. The game was supposed to begin at four o’clock. But…due to an injury on the field during one game, rain delay on another, and an hour fourth quarter game prior to Cole’s team playing, his team didn’t hit the field until 5:50 in the early evening.
At 6:29pm my phone rang. Hunter was home alone watching college football. He called to inform us that lightning had just struck the round metal table just outside the family room window. At 6:44pm he sent me a photo of our old and beautiful oak tree beside the round, now smoking, table. Lightning had left a nice scar on that tree. Hunter informed me that the cables were fried, Wi-Fi and other electronics were no longer working. I simply replied, “Oh no! Glad you’re ok!
When we arrived home, Tim did a thorough investigation as to the damage on the home. The list is lengthy.
The following morning on the way to church Tim asked, “Was it raining when the lightning struck?” I wasn’t sure why he would ask that question. Then he said, “Think about it. If Cole’s game would have started on time, we would have been outside watching the football games on the television. It could have been a LOT worse.”
OH, Lord Jesus, thank You!!
Tim was right. Not only would we have been outside in our backyard watching the games, but would have most likely been sitting in those metal chairs. Our Saturday evening would have turned out totally different.
I had thanked God for keeping my boy safe on Saturday, but when Tim put it that way, I grabbed Hunter after the church service, gave him a big hug, and said, “God’s not done with you yet. You are still here for a purpose.”
Close call? Yep. Happy for the delay of youth football games? Looking back…You bet. Praising Jesus for protecting my boy from any effects from the “feets away” lightning strike? Absolutely!
I am sure that the good work God began in you will continue until he completes it on the day when Jesus Christ comes again.” Philippians 1:6
Cherish those you love!
Hug your loved ones tight!
God’s not done with you yet either!  Listen to Him.
