“I desire to do Your will, my God; Your law is within my heart.” Psalm 40:8
This verse is one that I turn into a prayer each day for myself and my family. I pray that we will each have the desire to do God’s will and not our own.
Oh, man, have I so gone down the path of doing my own thing. And isn’t it much like us to want His will and to give God the control of our lives, but we often don’t relinquish it all to Him? We hang on to a slither because letting go of control or having complete faith is at times difficult to conquer.
Dear friend, read what David had to read in Psalm 40:1-8 and notice how David (a man after God’s own heart) struggled with this as well. Please notice how David was in a pit, hit rock bottom, and he realized he need God. Recognize how when he did put his trust in God how joy was written all over him:
“I waited patiently for the Lord; He turned to me and heard my cry. He lifted me out of the slimy pit, out of the mud and mire; He set my feet on a rock and gave me a firm place to stand. He put a new song in my mouth, a hymn of praise to our God. Many will see and fear the Lord and put their trust in Him. Blessed is the one who trusts in the Lord, who does not look to the proud, to those who turn aside to false gods. Many, Lord my God, are the wonders you have done, the things you planned for us. None can compare with You; were I to speak and tell of Your deeds, they would be too many to declare. Sacrifice and offering You did not desire but my ears You have opened burnt offerings and sin offerings You did not require. Then I said, “Here I am, I have come it is written about me in the scroll. I desire to do Your will, my God; Your law is within my heart.”
God did a lot in these verses. He turned to David, heard him cry, lifted him out of yuck, set him straight, gave him a firm foundation, put joy in David’s mouth and heart, etc. God was busy in David’s life when David was not doing so well at being the boss of his own life, and God is still in the business of doing the same for you and me.
Relinquish your life to Him! You’ll discover much joy when you desire God’s will for your life instead of your own will.
I pray many blessings and much JOY for you! Have a wonderful day. – Stephanie
