This Christmas season is supposed to be one of joyous celebration. Yet, over the past few weeks, I’ve received news of several loved ones of friends passing away. It doesn’t matter the age or stage of life one is in, nor the circumstances of one’s passing, it still hurts.
I just returned from a visitation of a precious 85 year old gentleman. I know he is playing his harmonica in heaven right now. He is having a joyous celebration. But the heartache is still felt here for those left behind.
While in the receiving line, others chatted about a young twenty-three year old man who was in a motorcycle accident this past weekend. A life shortly lived.
While in conversation, my mind couldn’t help but think about the short-lived deaths of my own loved ones. Someone even reminisced about my dear mother-in-law and how she passed. They couldn’t help but say wonderful and kind words about her life.
When I walked in the door from the earlier mentioned visitation, I received a phone call of a family member’s death. Your heart sinks, questions abound, and then the mode of “how can I help” kicks into gear. I don’t even know the circumstances yet, but please pray for her husband and teenage son who she left behind.
For those deaths that have recently occurred that I know of, I praise Jesus that they all knew Christ as their personal Savior.
Just think…they will be celebrating Jesus’ birth with Him! Glory!
This season is difficult for many. The amount of time that passes by doesn’t change the fact that someone is terribly missing a loved one. Heartstrings are often tugged just a little more at Christmas time.
It is my prayer that in the midst of all your joyous celebrations, please keep in prayer and be mindful of those who are suffering, whether their loss is recent or in the distant past. Capture and treasure those precious memories. Life is but a breath. Enjoy each moment, even those tough times that make us stronger teach us compassion.
There is hope…hope is Jesus Christ!
“The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.” Psalm 34:18
“For no one is cast off by the Lord forever. Though he brings grief, he will show compassion, so great is his unfailing love” Lamentations 3:31-32
“Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.” Matthew 5:4
I pray many blessings and much JOY for you! Have a wonderful day. – Stephanie
