“Imitate God, therefore, in everything you do, because you are His dear children. 2 Live a life filled with love, following the example of Christ. He loved us and offered Himself as a sacrifice for us, a pleasing aroma to God.” Ephesians 5:1-2
For some crazy reason, when I read these verses today a song came to my mind that debuted when I was ten years old. In 1978 John Paul Young sang “Love is in the Air”. I guess because of the words in Ephesians that say, “a life filled with love” and “a pleasing aroma to God” my thoughts went to love being in the air.
Read these three verses from the song:
Love is in the air everywhere I look around Love is in the air every sight and every sound And I don’t know if I’m being foolish Don’t know if I’m being wise But it’s something that I must believe in And it’s there when I look in your eyes.
Love is in the air, in the whisper of the tree Love is in the air in the thunder of the sea And I don’t know if I’m just dreaming Don’t know if I feel safe But it’s something that I must believe in And it’s there when you call out my name
Love is in the air, in the rising of the sun Love is in the air, when the day is nearly done And I don’t know if you are illusion Don’t know if I see truth But you are something that I must believe in And you are there when I reach out for you

Now, he was probably singing these words for the lady in his life, but let’s look at them as a testimony to God.
- When we open our eyes and see others the way God sees them, we will discover the love that just may be hidden in those unlovable people. 1 Samuel 16:7b says, “The Lord does not look at the things people look at. People look at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.”
- God desires for us to be wise. The bible is full of examples of the consequences of when we make wise or foolish decisions. Choosing to live a life of love is wise, and more like Christ. “But the wisdom that comes from God is like this: First, it is pure. It is also peaceful, gentle, and easy to please. This wisdom is always ready to help people who have trouble and to do good for others. This wisdom is always fair and honest.” James 3:17
- In the rising of the sun until the day is nearly done…“Do everything in love.” 1 Corinthians 16:14
