“Christ beside me, Christ before me, Christ behind me, Christ within me, Christ beneath me, Christ above me.” St. Patrick
Whiskey tasting, Highland games, Celtic bands, kilts galore, and ample heritage…that’s how we started off our Spring Break week. Well, I’m not a whiskey drinker, but I sure enjoyed watching the games, listening to the Celtic music bands, and learning more about both mine and Tim’s family heritage.
Tim, Holly, Cole, and I loaded up our vehicle and went on a road trip. Our first stop was in St. Augustine, Florida. Before our adventure we were delighted to find out the Celtic Music and Heritage Festival was taking place adjacent to the never disappointing historical town. So we had to include the scarf that he wore to his mother’s funeral that used to belong to her, in our luggage. Tim was representing that day, and wore it with pride.

Tim’s mom’s family, The Dunbar Clan, is from Scotland, and my mom’s family, The Hunter Clan, is as well. We discovered some history, the crest, and the tartan designs (both traditional and modern) for both our Clans. The discoveries quenched our thirst to travel to Scotland and Ireland even more than we already were yearning for.
One of our discoveries was that both Clans originated from Scotland and moved into Ireland. Sounds much like Saint Patrick. He was actually born in Scotland before being kidnapped to Ireland.
While researching information on St. Patrick I discovered that he used a three-leafed shamrock to explain the Holy Trinity to pagan Irish, forever linking the shamrock with him and the Irish in the popular imagination. He would tie shamrocks to his robes, which is why we wear green today. (The shamrock was also important in Celtic mythology because of its three leaves — a sacred number to the Celts.) (abcnews.go.com) I love it!

So while many are out participating in their green drink of choice today, I’m resting in the fact that St. Patrick actually was a man of great perseverance and a man of God. He had found Christ and wanted to share Him with others. Amen!

Happy St. Patrick’s Day, y’all!
