I love my little surfer girl. <3

In a journal entry last month I mentioned and shared the lyrics to Tim McGraw’s chart-topping song “Humble and Kind”. (Click here to view.)
While reading God’s word this morning I couldn’t help but whisper the words to the song in my head again. In the verses from Philippians 2:1, 3-8 Paul described a few more attributes that we need to reflect in our lives “Little Christs” besides, yet still including, being humble and kind.
We should:

  • Encourage
  • Comfort
  • Love
  • Show mercy
  • Be kind
  • Be humble
  • Honor others
  • Care
  • Serve

Why should we reflect these attributes? Simply because Jesus did.
We live in a world today where “entitlement” is running rampant (that’s for a whole other journal entry on its own). Teaching middle school I recognize issues in our schools that is often the root of many disagreements between others. My heart is saddened by what I observe in the direction that our society is moving towards.
Hillsong United has a song titled “Hosanna”. A few lines in that song reads, “Heal my heart and make it clean. Open up my eyes to the things unseen. Show me how to love like You have loved me. Break my heart for what breaks Yours”. (www.azlyrics.com)
If we could all sincerely say a prayer using these words from Hillsong United and strive to display the characteristics mentioned in Philippians, it is my prayer that we will reflect God’s light to others and may our lives be seen as a contagious joy for others. Jesus is needed in our world. And when we have Him in our hearts, we need to live like it and not conform to this world. Be the new creature in Christ you were meant to be. To God be ALL the glory.

Philippians 2:1, 3-8, Think about what we have in Christ: the encouragement He has brought us, the comfort of His love, our sharing in His Spirit, and the mercy and kindness He has shown us. If you enjoy these blessings,…In whatever you do, don’t let selfishness or pride be your guide. Be humble, and honor others more than yourselves. Don’t be interested only in your own life, but care about the lives of others too. In your life together, think the way Christ Jesus thought. He was like God in every way, but He did not think that His being equal with God was something to use for His own benefit. Instead, He gave up everything, even His place with God. He accepted the role of a servant, appearing in human form. During His life as a man, 8He humbled Himself by being fully obedient to God, even when that caused His death—death on a cross.

“You are the light that shines for the world to see. You are like a city built on a hill that cannot be hidden.” Matthew 5:14

May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit. Romans 15:13

Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will. Romans 12:2

Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here! 2 Corinthians 5:17

I pray that you will enjoy soaking up The Son every moment of each day. –Stephanie
