Oh my, the drama of friendships, especially in middle school. It seems that with each day that goes by there is some student coming up to me either crying, heartbroken, needing a hug, or has an expression of melancholy all over their face all because of some broken relationship. These kids treat relationships like a chocolate chip cookie on my lunch plate…sometimes it’s there and sometimes it’s not. They view relationships like objects, a means to an end. Relationships are meant to be whatchamacallits. A relationship is meant to be a connection, a bond between people.
Well, there is one friendship that cannot be broken.
Need a friend? You’ve got a friend…in God.
How amazing and comforting it is to know that we are friends with The Man? Yes!
In Romans 5:10-11 we are encouraged and filled with joy by the relationship/friendship we have with God:
10If, when we were at our worst, we were put on friendly terms with God by the sacrificial death of his Son, now that we’re at our best, just think of how our lives will expand and deepen by means of his resurrection life! (MSG)
11 So now we can rejoice in our wonderful new relationship with God because our Lord Jesus Christ has made us friends of God. (NLT)
God has seen you at your worst and at your best, and He isn’t leaving.
This friendship is life-giving, amplifying, and is so deep that it cannot be shaken.
He is the friend that gives the best advice. The godly give good advice to their friends; the wicked lead them astray. Proverbs 12:26
He will keep you strong. As iron sharpens iron, so a friend sharpens a friend. Proverbs 27:17
God is always loyal. A friend is always loyal, and a brother is born to help in time of need. Proverbs 17:17
He communicates with you. I no longer call you slaves, because a master doesn’t confide in his slaves. Now you are my friends, since I have told you everything the Father told me. John 15:15
We just need to have faith in Jesus Christ, and we will be called a friend of God. And so it happened just as the Scriptures say: “Abraham believed God, and God counted him as righteous because of his faith.” He was even called the friend of God. James 2:23
Being a friend of God is a sure thing.
I pray that you will enjoy soaking up The Son every moment of each day. –Stephanie
