you are holyThe country music group Florida Georgia Line’s latest single is called H.O.L.Y.. It is a powerful ballad. The other day I heard one person say that they don’t like the song because they are talking about a woman and not God. True, but here’s my take on it:

  • You must admit (if you’ve heard it) that it’s a catchy tune. Easy beat. Easy lyrics to sing along to. And not a derogatory song. I even woke up this morning singing the chorus.
  • Until the writers of this song tell me different, yes, it is a love letter written with the intentions to a woman from a man, but when you read the lyrics, all but the last part of the second verse, could easily be written for Jesus.
  • This is a sexy tune, and if it works for making some romance time between you and your spouse, go for it! God loves it when a husband and wife are in to each other. (Click here to view lyrics: azlyrics.com/lyrics)
  • H.O.L.Y. is an acronym for “High On Lovin’ You”. It’s not saying that the woman is holy, but…(see the next point)
  • When you read scripture there is numerous evidence stating that when you have accepted Christ as your Savior, then YES…you are holy. But now you must be holy in everything you do, just as God who chose you is holy. In the Scriptures God says, “Be holy, because I am holy.” 1 Peter 1:16 For God’s will was for us to be made holy by the sacrifice of the body of Jesus Christ, once for all time. Hebrews 10:10  God has united you with Christ Jesus. For our benefit God made him to be wisdom itself. Christ made us right with God; he made us pure and holy, and he freed us from sin. 1 Corinthians 1:30

Just like the song mentions: we are all broken and Jesus can save you from it; you can believe in Jesus Christ; YOU are holy; God can make your darkest times bright; He will cleanse you from your demons; He will heal your hurts; Jesus is your saving grace.
So I ask you as in Acts 22:16, “What are you waiting for? Get up and be baptized. Have your sins washed away by calling on the name of the Lord.” Go, BE HOLY and High On Lovin’ God!
He is definitely High On Lovin’ YOU!!
