holly at USFSP 2Holly and I had a great afternoon eating an early dinner and strolling the streets of her college town and campus. My tummy is full yet my heart is fuller. I can’t wait to see what God has planned for Holly.
As we walked the sidewalks of the beautiful downtown and admiring the architect, she would talk about the things she will do and places she will go. Oh, sista…and not just Holly though…attention ALL college and young adults…allow me to share a quote with you once said by Mrs. Eleanor Roosevelt…“WITH FREEDOM COMES MUCH RESPONSIBILITY.” (Emphasis added by me.)
I appreciate and agree with the quote by our former first lady, however Paul was divinely given these words to pen regarding freedom that I believe is of more importance to share:
My brothers and sisters, God chose you to be free. But don’t use your freedom as an excuse to do what pleases your sinful selves. Instead, serve each other with love. Galatians 5:13
Once you are “out on your own” and begin to live your life as an adult, you will be tempted to do things and go places that is appealing to your flesh. Just because you are “free” from being under your parents’ roof, doesn’t mean that you do what pleases you. God is always with you and watching you.
If you aren’t careful, you will discover that the “sinful self” choices you make will decrease your freedom in the long run. How can you gain MORE freedom? Serve others humbly with love. Hey, don’t just take it from me, God said so.
Do you desire true freedom? In 2 Corinthians 3:17 we read, “Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom.” If you have Christ in your heart, you also have The Spirit. Therefore, you have true freedom.
Also, please remember that just because you can do something doesn’t mean that it is beneficial. 1 Corinthians 6:12 MSGsays it like this, “Just because something is technically legal doesn’t mean that it’s spiritually appropriate. If I went around doing whatever I thought I could get by with, I’d be a slave to my whims.”
Enjoy your new freedom. Serve others. Be humble, kind, and show God’s love in the choices you make. Be responsible.
I pray that you will enjoy soaking up The Son every moment of each day. –Stephanie
