Our Mom’s Day photo from 2016.

Recently a dear friend, Dede, “copied and pasted” a wonderful answer to the question, “Mom, what do you want for Mother’s Day?” The response is more than wonderful it’s spot on:

I want you. I want you to keep coming around, I want you to bring your girlfriends around, I want you to ask me questions, ask my advice, tell me your problems, ask for my opinion, (even if you don’t like it) and most importantly ask for my help. I want you to come over and rant about your problems, rant about life, whatever. Tell me about your job, your worries, your fur babies. I want you to continue sharing your life with me. Come over and laugh with me, or laugh at me, I don’t care. Hearing you laugh is music to me.

I spent the better part of my life raising you the best way I knew how. Now, give me time to sit back and admire my work.

Raid my refrigerator, help yourself, I really don’t mind. In fact, I wouldn’t want it any other way.

I want you to spend your money making a better life for you and your future family, I have the things I need. I want to see you happy and healthy. When you ask me what I want for Mother’s Day, I say “nothing” because you’ve already been giving me my gift all year. I want you.

I have no idea who the originator of the response is, but I must say, the older (more seasoned) I get, the more I totally agree.
As a mother of three…ages 21, less than a month shy of 19, and 15…I would be so grateful for my children to:

  • Reply to a text. I like to know you’re still alive.
  • Actually, text me” just because”.
  • Bring your friends over, lots of times. I love to hear you communicate with your friends, because I get to discover fabulous (and not so fabulous) things about you. I get to see you laugh more, and actually talk.
  • Make wise choices with your future spouse, family, and God in mind.
  • Hug me when you walk through the door, or when you leave.
  • Say “I love you” before you go, or…even better…just out of the blue.
  • Embrace and be grateful for the opportunities that we give you.
  • Simply…get along…be friends with one another.

I’m at an age, and a time in my life, that when I want something material, I can go get it. YOU are what I desire for Mom’s Day. Time with you is what matters.
I know, I know, one day you’ll grow older, marry, and have children of you own, and things may change, but until then…let’s just enjoy each other, laugh lots, share good times and bad, and be filled with joy because we do have each other.
I pray that you all have a wonderful Mother’s Day. Your mom may be celebrating with Jesus (oh what a glorious day), you may have someone you thinks of as a mother figure, you may be a mom yourself, or you may have others who look to you as a mom…HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY!
“Children are a gift from the LORD; they are a reward from Him.” Psalm 127:3
“She speaks with wisdom and teaches others to be loving and kind. She oversees the care of her house. She is never lazy.” Proverbs 31:26-27
“Listen to your father who gave you life, and do not despise your mother when she is old. Buy truth, and do not sell it; buy wisdom, instruction, and understanding. The father of the righteous will greatly rejoice; he who fathers a wise son will be glad in him.  Let your father and mother be glad; let her who bore you rejoice” Proverbs 23:22-25
