I am free! I am free! I am no longer a taxi mom.
Mine and Tim’s third and final child recently turned sixteen. A mix of emotions washed over me when Cole proudly received his drivers license.
On the last day of me taxing him to school, I mentioned to Cole, “You won’t need me anymore.” He grinned. Then I repeated the statement when an emphasis on the word need, and a sad face, “Cole, you won’t NEED me anymore.” He understood my reiteration and said, with a compassionate grin, “Yes I will.” (He gets me.)
Listen, I’m forty-nine years old and I still NEED my parent(s). My mom was still my taxi just last year when I couldn’t drive, due to my broken ankle/leg. And, she did it without hesitation.
As thrilled as I am to not have to stop mid-day to retrieve a child from school, and then off to their next extracurricular activity, it means a bit…okay, a LOT more praying will take place.
A couple of takeaways:
- God is The Ultimate Parent. We will always NEED Him. He will ALWAYS be there for us, without hesitation.
- Prayer is a necessity.
- True freedom is found in the Lord.
Dear Lord, thank You for loaning my children to me. I pray that You will keep a hedge of protection around them, and may they always sense your closeness and protection. Thank You being available 24/7. My knees are about to earn a few more calluses due to praying for my independent children. I love You, Lord. Amen.
Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified, for the LORD your God goes with you; He will never leave you nor forsake you.” Deuteronomy 31:6
Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it. Proverbs 22:6
Many blessings to you and yours,
Stephanie
