While staying at the Dromoland Castle in Ireland, we had the opportunity to have close encounter with birds at their School of Falconry.  The last bird the instructor shared with us was the barn owl. This bird has commanding and stunning features! While observing the owl and listening to the trainer (Damien), my mind couldn’t help but recall the correlation between owls and being wise.

Two facts about this barn owl can encourage us to be wise in a couple of areas:

  • They mate for life: I like this plan.  In our society, we see so many marriages torn apart.  This breaks my heart. Marriage takes work. Work on being selfless, compassionate, and having a stubborn attitude…Stubborn in the sense of sticking with it.  Always be on guard. Which leads to the next bit of owl fact wisdom…
  • Listen for prey: Owls have a keen sense of hearing.  They can hear the heartbeat of their prey in over 4 meters/14-15 feet. We shouldn’t only listen to others in life, but keep your eyes open.  Look for those predators (The Predator/Satan) in life who want to attack you. Be alert.

Just because someone is older doesn’t make them wiser.  I’ve known (and know) some older people who have made or make some bonehead decisions in life. And I’m not excluding me from the bonehead list, but I know I sure strive to have and gain godly wisdom and knowledge and understanding by seeking His word.
The Merriam-Webster Dictionary defines wise as characterized by wisdom : marked by deep understanding, keen discernment, and a capacity for sound judgment. Notice that wise isn’t described as surface knowledge, dull insight, and a wavering awareness.  Go deep in your understanding.  Be keen in your discernment by reading the Bible.  Make good moral decisions.
I want to encourage you to be open to learning wisdom, shine bright for Christ, and ask God for guidance and wisdom when you lack it, He would love to show you the way.
Do any of you need wisdom? Ask God for it. He is generous and enjoys giving to everyone. So he will give you wisdom. 6 But when you ask God, you must believe. Don’t doubt him. Whoever doubts is like a wave in the sea that is blown up and down by the wind. James 1:5-6
The Lord’s teachings are perfect.  They give strength to his people. The Lord’s rules can be trusted. They help even the foolish become wise.  Psalm 19:7
The wise people will shine as bright as the sky. Those who teach others to live right will shine like stars forever and ever. Daniel 12:3
Teach the wise, and they will become wiser. Instruct those who live right, and they will gain more knowledge.  Wisdom begins with fear and respect for the Lord. Knowledge of the Holy One leads to understanding.  Proverbs 9:9-10
Fools are quick to express their anger, but wise people are patient and control themselves.
Proverbs 29:11
A wise son makes his father happy; a foolish one makes his mother sad.  Proverbs 10:1

Blessings to you and yours,
Stephanie
