I look up to the hills, but where will my help really come from? My help will come from the Lord, the Creator of heaven and earth. He will not let you fall. Your Protector will not fall asleep. Israel’s Protector does not get tired. He never sleeps. Psalm 1212:1-4
Recently I had friends complete a survey as to whether or not they take power naps. Those who participated ranged from ages 18-80, male and female. It was interesting that the age or sex didn’t determine the responses. It was across the board a blended collection of individuals. The results were 71% yes, and 29% no. I would be included in the 71%.
What prompted me to pose this question was because of a conversation I had with someone. They do not nap, yet I do. My power naps don’t transpire daily, but the majority of the week days do include a time of rest. Now, I’m not talking about sleeping for hours…that wipes me out for the remainder of the day. My power naps range from ten to thirty minutes. My body is still, mind resting, and lights out! Sleep may or may not occur, but the state of complete rest is definitely happening.
I know for me…power naps benefit me with my attitude, health, and thought process. I guess, for those who know me, power naps conclude the same results for me as food. I. Must. Have. Food. Or I become weak, tired, grouchy, and all other side effects that go with lack of food. (Anyone out there like me?)
There are folks who say, “I don’t have time for a power nap?”, “I may miss something when I nap.”, or “Naps are for babies and old people.” Well, you have the right to have your own opinion, but even Jesus rested.
Yep. Remember when the storm blew across the lake and everyone aboard was freaking out because they were going to sink? And what was Jesus doing? Sleeping.
While they were sailing, Jesus slept. A big storm blew across the lake, and the boat began to fill with water. They were in danger. Luke 8:23
Jesus wasn’t worried about missing anything. He wasn’t a baby or even an old man. He knew he needed a recharge so…nap time it was in the bottom of the boat.
Remember…even after God created the heavens and the earth and everything in it…He rested. Okay, God never sleeps, but He did cease from creating that day. (Visit the following link for a good read and expalination of God resting: https://www.gotquestions.org/God-rest-seventh-day.html)
When you lie down, you will not be afraid. When you rest, your sleep will be peaceful. Proverbs 3:24
I pray that you will find time to be still during the day to rejuvenate your body. I pray that you will have a peaceful rest, and will rise with reinvigorated spirit.
Are you one of the 71% or 29%?
Blessings to you and yours,
Stephanie
