A tire on our mower had a little malfunction (not because of one of my children decided to mow a portion of the burly pasture with the lawn mower instead of the tractor of anything *wink*). All I knew is when I took the tire into the local tire shop, my neighbor, Bubba (yes…I’m from the south), informed me to tell the man at the shop that I need a new valve stem. Bubba said that if I forget what to ask for, just hand them the tire and say, “Please fix this.”
While waiting on my new valve stem…which I correctly asked for, and the gentleman smiled knowing that I said the correct verbiage…I sat on the bench beside a young man. He was very polite and I discovered much in the short amount of time I was there. When he told me he graduated from my high school alma mater in 2006, he asked when I graduated. I laughed and said, “1986”. He replied, with a chuckle, “I wasn’t even born then.” Our informative conversation was cut short when the tire-man presented me with my repaired tire.
Before my departure, I glanced up at the ceiling of the covered area and was astonished at what I saw. Hundreds! Hundreds, I tell you, of wasp scattered amongst a dozen massive nest. I gasped, pointed to the colonies of wasps, and showed my new young bench friend. He hadn’t even noticed them until I made him look up.
I said, “Well, here’s your devotional for the day: You never know when danger is lurking. Look up. Look up to God so you’ll recognize danger when it’s near.” We both smiled, I patted him on the shoulder, and said “Have a great day.”
Y’all, you never know when God will present a life lesson to you. Have your God-goggles on and be bold to share your simple discoveries. That simple discovery could be profound to someone. Be bold.
As I began to type these words to you, Lauren Daigle’s new song popped into my head…”Look up, Child”.
