JESUS.  Sometimes that’s all you can say.  No, not taking His name in vain, but a raw and real “all I need is Jesus” breath.
There’s a little country church on a corner that I pass by when I’m heading into town. Knights Baptist Church.  For the longest time they had a yard sale size sign in the ground, by the road, that simply read Jesus. Each time I’d pass by, I looked forward to reading the name JESUS on that 11” x 17” corrugated plastic sign. One day, it was gone.  I can recall being a little sad not seeing the JESUS sign on the roadside. Where did He go? Ahh, Jesus was still there, just not that visual reminder. Then…I noticed the sign had been replaced. This new sign was bigger and brighter than before.  The new sign was probably six times larger and now had a light shining on it at night. JESUS! He was back on the roadside. Jesus is larger than life. Jesus is The Light of the world for all to see. Jesus is…

  • Jesus is light: John 1:4-5, 8.  In a world where darkness is all around…He is Light.  I pray that you will keep The Light on for all to see. People are experiencing a variety of emotions during this COVID-19 season.  Some may feel like they are in complete darkness. Will you help shine some Light on them?
  • Jesus is with us:  Matthew 1:20-23. Jesus is God and human.  He was given the name Immanuel, which means “God with us.”  Pastor Louie Giglio’s message “Where is God?” Is powerful and reassuring that He is with us. Take a listen:  https://youtu.be/NGsDCAtd0PQ. I pray that you will feel God holding your hand or lifting you up into His arms right now.  He is not letting go of you.
  • Jesus is not absent when He is silent:  Luke 2:52. For the next 18 years of Jesus’ life on earth, we don’t have a record of any events He was doing except that He grew in wisdom and in stature and in favor with God and all the people.  I pray that you will grow in wisdom in Christ daily, yet especially while you may find extra time on your hands during this “Stay-at-home/COVID-19” season. Dig deep into His word or simply start reading it while asking God to reveal insight to you.
  • Jesus is salvation:  Acts 4:12. He is the only one who God has given authority to save.  It is not because of your good works, the family you’re born into, or you just being a good person that saves you.  Sure, those components could save you some heartache in life, but to have true salvation, to have an everlasting life in paradise with Jesus, can only come from Him. I pray that you will trust in Him.
  • Jesus is a teacher: Matthew 5.  We should seek to learn something new every day.  It makes life more exciting and possibly longer. Allow Jesus to be your teacher.  His lessons are exciting, and your life will have eternal consequences.

Jesus is so much more than this!
Sometimes all we can say is JESUS. As you breathe in and breathe out His name, may you feel peace, love, strength, and comfort.
When I drive by the church on the corner and see that sign that simply says JESUS, I smile. There are times when His name is all I can say.  Yet, when I see the church’s roadside sign, I say JESUS, but my mind automatically conjures up either a blessing He has given to me, a reminder how He has provided for me, or simply that He truly is always with me.
It doesn’t take a sign that says JESUS to urge me to think of all He’s done for me, but this gentle reminder surely brings me comfort and joy.
I want to encourage you to find just one thing that Jesus is to you, and some scripture to back it up.  Share that with others, via a text, conversation, or social media. Share it with me in your comments below. I’d love that!  The times that we are in right now call for some encouragement. Will you be an encouragement for others? Maybe all you can share or say is JESUS.
As the comedian Bill Engvall says, “Here’s your sign”.
Blessings to you and yours,
Stephanie

(I have no idea if anyone from Knights Baptist Church will read this, but I want to thank you for the sign you have placed on the roadside.  I bet I’m not the only one that sign brings comfort and joy to. Thank you for sharing JESUS with all who pass by.)
