So, here I was, minding my own business, and out of nowhere these two birds came flying directly towards me.  It wasn’t until they were only about six feet in front of me, level with my head, that I even noticed them…
Music was in my ears.  I was getting my worship on while walking down the beach.  My mind was focused on Jesus and all the blessings He’s given to me.  Prayer requests were rattling in my head and being lifted up to the Lord.  My hands were keeping beat to the rhythm of the praise music as if I was the drummer in a band, and my arms would occasionally flail up in the air giving glory to The Creator.
So, here I was, minding my own business, and out of nowhere these two birds came flying directly towards me.  Because the weather was a bit overcast, the sky was grey and there was a slight hovering of the early morning clouds cascading over the sand and sea.  These two birds blended in perfectly with the colors of the sky and land before me.  It wasn’t until they were only about six feet in front of me, level with my head, that I even noticed them.  I must have been camouflage to them as well, because when they recognized a larger figure ahead of them, they immediately parted like the Red Sea.
After I did a little “WHOA” maneuver, it made me think about how God protects us from our enemy when they are coming straight for us.

“The Lord will help you defeat your enemies who come to fight against you. Your enemies will come against you one way, but they will run away from you seven different ways!  Deuteronomy 28:7 ERV

Deuteronomy 28:7 goes perfectly with my thought process after my close encounter with the birds.  Chapter 28 has to deal with blessings that will happen due to our obedience to the Lord.  So work with me here…while walking that morning, I was totally submerged in obedience to Christ.  The birds were the enemy coming to defeat me, yet since I was under God’s covering, the enemy fled.
Now, I know that Christians are not immune to the evil in this world and the consequences of it.  Heck, Satan loves trying to go after those who claim Christ as their Savior.  But by golly I sure want to stay close to Christ, obey my Lord, and remain steadfast in Him.  His way is much better…okay the best…compared to the ways of the world and Satan’s schemes.

God will save you from hidden dangers and from deadly diseases. You can go to him for protection. He will cover you like a bird spreading its wings over its babies. You can trust him to surround and protect you like a shield.  Psalm 91:3-4 ERV

Yes, because God is your refuge, the High God your very own home, Evil can’t get close to you, harm can’t get through the door. He ordered his angels to guard you wherever you go. Psalm 91:9-11 MSG

In Psalm 91, this chapter tells us to trust in the Lord and His protection.  When we are in trouble, we are to call out to Him.  Maybe those birds weren’t an illustration of evil coming my way, yet the wings of His angels guarding me against the unseen evil that surrounds me.
Either way, my friend, please know that God is your protector.  He desires for you to be close to Him, to seek Him for safety, to dwell in His presence, and agree with Him.
I pray that you will feel comfort and complete security in Christ.
Blessings to you and yours,
Stephanie
