Have you ever heard someone say that your checkbook can tell a lot about your priorities? It’s so true.
While reading Philippians 4:15-17, I was reminded how we are to support missionaries and Christian organizations around our world. We are to give of our time and finances out of the kindness of our heart.
For me, I can testify that when I give my time or money, my intentions were to bless others, but I was the one who felt blessed within.
And you Philippians know that in the early days of preaching the gospel, after I left Macedonia, no church shared with me in the matter of giving and receiving except you alone; for even in Thessalonica you sent a gift more than once for my needs. Not that I seek the gift itself, but I do seek the profit which increases to your [heavenly] account [the blessing which is accumulating for you]. Philippians 4:15-17 AMP
Tim and I are faithful to give 10% to the church, and beyond. Whether our donations are monthly supporting three children across the world, filling boxes for Samaritan’s Purse, giving for Toys for Tots, supporting local organizations, or any other charitable entity, giving to others in need is important.
“A tenth of all crops belongs to the Lord. This means the crops from fields and the fruit from trees—a tenth belongs to the Lord. Leviticus 27:30 ERV
Honor the Lord with your wealth And with the first fruits of all your crops (income); Proverbs 3:9 – AMP
I’ll never forget that before my mother-in-love went to be with Jesus, the last check she ever wrote was her tithe to the church. What a wonderful example of where her priorities were.
Underneath the verses in my bible, I have handwritten, “Their giving met an earthly need and a heavenly mark.” I wish I knew who to give credit to for the saying, but I must agree.
So…If you were to review your bank statement, what would your spending reveal about your priorities? I challenge and encourage you to give God the first 10% of your income each month. It’s all His anyway. Trust me, the Lord will supply all your needs.
Friend, it is no coincidence that the words God breathed into verses 19 and 20 follow a call to give:
And this same God who takes care of me will supply all your needs from his glorious riches, which have been given to us in Christ Jesus. Now all glory to God our Father forever and ever! Amen. Philippians 4:19-20 NLT
Blessings to you and yours,
Stephanie
