What a better day to journal about the calming of a storm than today, as many of us are home weathering out Florida’s latest LATE hurricane, Nicole.

When preparing for the next lesson to share with the group of kindergarten through second graders, I searched what national day it would be on the calendar to see what was happening on that date. I discovered that November 9th was National Chaos Never Dies Day. How in the world did I tie that into a children’s character lesson? Well, we are told that in life we will have troubles/storms/chaos, but to not fear, Jesus is here.

A great example in the bible is in Luke 8:22-25. Jesus and His disciples were crossing to the other side of the lake when a fierce storm arose. The disciples were in a frenzy and water was gushing into the boat, while Jesus was napping. I can imagine the chaotic thoughts and feelings rushing through the disciples. My heart gets in a tizzy when Tim tells the story about a time he and some friends left the east coast to go to the Bahamas, and it was a horrific storm!

Y’all, there is some type of disorder/chaos probably every day of our lives. Can I get a witness? There may be external chaos, internal chaos, mental chaos, you name it rattling around in you. Whatever is causing “messiness” in your life, I pray that you will take a deep breath, trust in the Lord, and know that at any moment He will hush your storm.

How we react to each chaos in life is important. First thing is first, trust in God.

Jesus said, “Don’t let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God, and trust also in me.” John 14:1

After sharing John 14:1 with the students, dividing them into three groups to choral read with motions, and repeating this verse a few times, I mentioned that there will be times when we want and need to just look up to God, raise our hands, and cry out “HELP ME!”

If you are at that point when you need to cry out “Help me!”, please don’t hesitate to do so. Just remember to cry it out to the Lord first before lashing or calling out to someone else. He is there. He will help you. Jesus will calm your storm.

Blessings to you and yours,

Stephanie
