There was an old hymn we used to sing often called “Standing on The Promises of God”. For a little Baptist church, this song was upbeat. I can still picture uncle Dale (our song leader) leading us all and increasing the speed as the song would go from verse to verse. At the end of the song, we would always slow it way down, almost as if making a lasting reminder for us to stand on the promises of God. It still brings a smile to my face just thinking about singing this song.

When you research how many promises of God there are in the bible, you come across thousands. Friend, that’s a lot of assurances for you to stand on daily.

One of the great promises that the Lord tells us is that He will never leave us.

Don’t be afraid, for I am with you. Don’t be discouraged, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you. I will hold you up with my victorious right hand. Isaiah 41:10

In today’s society, anxiety is prevalent. Worrisome thoughts and “what if” scenarios overwhelm us. Uneasy feelings wash over us. Our nighttime peaceful slumber becomes a battle of insomnia. That nasty and unwelcomed emotion of fear creeps up. It happens to us all at various times. God has a promise for those moments/seasons. I like the simplicity of The Message translation for Philippians 4:6-7.

Don’t fret or worry. Instead of worrying, pray. Let petitions and praises shape your worries into prayers, letting God know your concerns. Before you know it, a sense of God’s wholeness, everything coming together for good, will come and settle you down. It’s wonderful what happens when Christ displaces worry at the center of your life.

Sounds easier than done, yes? But when you are facing anxious thoughts and feelings, get in the habit of praying, praising, and petitioning. Trust me…better yet, trust God…that when you do this, you will sense God’s wholeness and calmness in your life.

I want to encourage you to seek God’s promises. Stand on them. Trust Him. He is always here for you and will never leave you.

It is my prayer that you will take comfort in knowing the Lord is with you and He promises to see you through any situation. Seek Him and His will for your life.

Blessings to you and yours,

Stephanie

Standing on The Promises, by Russell Kelso Carter in 1886 (These words still hold true today!)

1 Standing on the promises of Christ my king,
through eternal ages let his praises ring;
glory in the highest, I will shout and sing,
standing on the promises of God.

Refrain:
Standing, standing,
standing on the promises of God my Savior;
standing, standing,
I’m standing on the promises of God.

2 Standing on the promises that cannot fail,
when the howling storms of doubt and fear assail,
by the living Word of God I shall prevail,
standing on the promises of God. [Refrain]

3 Standing on the promises of Christ the Lord,
bound to him eternally by love’s strong cord,
overcoming daily with the Spirit’s sword,
standing on the promises of God. [Refrain]

4 Standing on the promises I cannot fall,
listening every moment to the Spirit’s call,
resting in my Savior as my all in all,
standing on the promises of God. [Refrain]

A Pocket full of Promises | Soaking up the Son (A vivid story of when I used this little book.)

In honor of one of God’s promises, the above featured photo of a beautiful rainbow reminds me of the completeness and presence of our Heavenly Father. I’m not honoring what some in our society celebrate the month of June, I tribute this to the Greatest Artist ever…God!

Below is from Study 1 THE PROMISE OF GOD IN THE RAINBOW – Words of Life Ministries:

The rainbow speaks to us of the promises of God from Genesis chapter 9 we learn that the rainbow was the guarantee given by God Himself that He would never again deluge the whole earth with a flood of water. It was a visible token given by God that He would fulfill His promise; it was His signature upon the covenant made between Himself and the earth. How good it is to remind ourselves that God will never break His word! Look up Matthew 24:35. He will fulfill every promise that He has ever made. He will complete His Church and will rapture it into His presence; He will restore His ancient people Israel to their own land and will establish again the Throne of David; He will overthrow all His enemies and exalt the Lord Jesus Christ as Lord and King; there will be a thousand years of peace upon the earth and then a final endless reign of everlasting bliss for all the redeemed of all the ages; He will judge the saved, and the lost, and the living nations, and He will do it by that Man whom He has appointed to be the Judge. Why? Because He has promised to do all these things. Yes, and He will save now (Romans 10:13)! The promises of God are certain and varied, and there is a promise for every need, every circumstance and every situation. Are you standing on the promises of God?
