There are so many stories in the bible that make me think, “Are we so different?” Well, in today’s chapter, this question arose again.
Friend, I want to encourage, challenge, you to read God’s words…Old and New…to discover the lessons we can learn from those in the past. There are field trips in life that we don’t have to go down. Read, listen, and learn.
Zechariah 2 notes:
I may be completely off, but I’m sensing a Holy Spirit comparison and a nod to Who the Lord is in the first five verses of Zechariah 2. In verse 5, I visualized the protective wall of fire representing the LORD as The Protector along with the Holy Spirit encompassing us, Jerusalem/the city is us Christians, and the glory inside the city is Jesus Christ shining in and through us. Do you see it? (Read Hebrews 12:29, Exodus 3:2, Exodus 14:19, Ezekiel 1:4, and so many more examples.)
As a Christian, I feel complete peace and security in knowing that I am being surrounded and engulfed with The Trinity. Do you have that peace and security? You can. All you have to do is trust in Jesus Christ. When you do, you will desire to grow in knowledge and wisdom by seeking and putting Him first in your life, fall deeply in love with the Lord and His ways, and have an urgency to share your new BFF with all. Oh how I pray that you will be filled with the inextinguishable fire of the Holy Spirit. I’m smiling now just thinking about how I want to be consumed with Him.
V6, Some of the Jews stayed longer in Babylon because they had become accustomed to the way of living there. Maybe it was more appealing or easier to live the Babylonian lifestyle than to return to Jerusalem. Are we so different? Do you find the ways of the world more appealing and easier? It happens. We must think of the end game, eternal life. If you have gone astray from the Lord, He is calling you back home. He wants you to leave your sin and self and return to Him. “Come home, dear child, come home.”
V8-9, Those who believe in Christ, those who love The Lord with all their heart, soul, mind, and strength…they are precious to Him. You are the apple of His eye, His most precious possession. He will defend you.
V10, Foreshadowing of Jesus Christ coming to live among us. God did send His Son. He is not just for the Jews, yet for all nations.
Y’all, I can’t say enough how reading these minor prophets you discover some major insight into how to live and the goodness and compassion of God. Be encouraged. Be challenged. Be engulfed in His goodness.
Blessings to you and yours,
Stephanie
