“And why worry about your clothing? Look at the lilies of the field and how they grow. They don’t work or make their clothing, yet Solomon in all his glory was not dressed as beautifully as they are. Matthew 6:28-29
I love spring time. The flowers are clothed brilliantly, the sky is painted so beautifully in blue and white, and new life is seen in nature through the animals that God has so graciously provided. The breeze may be gentle, or strong like I pray my faith will always be. Stop. Look. Listen to the newness and freshness of springtime.
Outside of our daughter’s bedroom window, there is a beautiful bed of African irises (Fortnight lily) that begin to flourish with blooms in the spring. They always put a smile on my face. When they are not in bloom, they still remain green and provide wonderful ground coverage.
In Matthew 6:28-29, Jesus tells us to look at the lilies of the field. Why did Christ tell us to look at the flowers? Because He wants us to not worry about so much in life. Verse 27 says, “Can all your worries add a single moment to your life?” The answer to that is “NO”.
In the commentary portion of my study bible it says, Worry may (1) damage your health, (2) disrupt your productivity, (3) negatively affect the way you treat others, and (4) reduce your ability to trust in God. So, let’s read on and do what verse 33 says to do:
See the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and He will give you everything you need.
You may not always feel like you are “in bloom” like the lily, but remember that when you put the Lord first in ALL that you do, you will remain strong and provide a light for others to see a glimpse of Jesus in your flourishing life.
Stop…and be still with God.
Look…at your bible daily and grow closer to Him.
Listen…to His voice as you rest in Him.
I pray that you will feel a freshness in your walk with Christ as you seek Him first.
Blessings to you and yours,
Stephanie
